In 2014, Dr. Kevin Nadal launched his first web series "Out Talk with Dr. Kevin Nadal" - a show that is dedicated to the topics that we sometimes don't want to talk about. On each episode, Dr. Nadal invites various experts and guests to discuss issues of the current times - usually related to social justice and multiculturalism.
Have you ever experienced something that was potentially racist/sexist/homophobic/etc. but didn't know for sure? When things like that happened, did you know how to handle the situation? Our panel today talks about microaggressions, or subtle forms of discrimination. I'm joined by Tia Burroughs (Project Coordinator), Grant Cooper (Comedian), and Dr. David Rivera (Professor of Psychology).
Why is it so hard for people to talk about mental health? Although it is completely normal for people to get depressed or anxious about life's everyday problems, it is sometimes so hard to let our friends and family know that there is something wrong. Our panel today talks about ways that we can help to decrease the stigma related to mental illness. I'm joined by Dr. Lauren Fisher (Psychologist) and Lorial Crowder (Community Organizer/ Mother).
Does profiling really exist? Why do some groups report getting discriminated against by law enforcement officers? What can you do if these things happen to you and what systemic changes can be done to try to address this issue? Today, I'm joined by Neil Allicock (John Jay College student), Amalia Quintanilla (LGBT researcher), and Dr. Cheryl Matias (Professor of Urban Community Teacher Education).
Are Asian Americans really the Model Minority? Is this something to be happy with or upset about? This week, I'm joined by Dr. Sumie Okazaki (NYU Professor and President of the Asian American Psychological Association) and Kilusan Bautista (Performance Artist).
Is being single harder than being in a relationship? Is dating harder than it was 20 years ago? How does gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and other factors influence the dating scene? I'm joined by Michelle Camaya (Broadway Dancer), Mateo Rodriguez (Writer/ Activist), and Melina Rosenberg (Humanitarian Aid Worker) to talk about finding love in a sometimes hopeless place.
